Does it do this? In my experience.....not really.
The cell phone coverage (AT&T) where I live is terrible. We're nestled up about 1 block away from some small foothills and must be in between cell tower nodes because the strength meter will change between 1-3 bars in various parts of the house. Coverage is better in the back yard.
The 5Barz Road Warrior (MSRP $299.00) consists of:
- the 5Barz Road Warrior box (I'll abbreviate to 5BRW)
- 12V power adapter gooseneck (for car use)
- cell phone cradle (adjusts to various widths of phones) that has a "kickstand"
- AC power adapter
I'll cover home use in this review.
Installation is easy: plug in the AC adapter, fully extend the connection cable from the 5BRW box to the cradle, turn on. That's it. You have to be within 2 feet of the phone holder for this to work.
Phone: iPhone 3GS
Carrier: AT&T
INTERNET SPEED:
Sitting within 2 feet of the cradle, I logged onto [...] to test the cellular internet speed.
I tested the speed over a 2 day period, the results were averaged:
5Barz "Off" (26 connections):
Download speed: 456.9 kbps
Upload speed: 64.8 kbps
Bars: 1.3
5Barz "On" (26 connections):
Download speed: 571 kbps
Upload speed: 79 kbps
Bars: 1.4
D/L speed: 25% increase
U/L speed: 22% increase
Bars: 7.7%
CELLULAR CALLS (iPhone 3GS):
Again sitting within 2 feet of the cradle, I tried calling my work voicemail to leave different messages so I can listen to the call quality.
Out of the 3 times I called my work voicemail, I could not hear the other side of the call so the voicemail system disconnected me. I deemed it as a "failed" test.
I then tried mounting the cell phone in the cradle, then holding the phone+cradle together I called my voicemail. Out of the 3 times, all 3 times I could connect to my voicemail.
The 5BARz Guarantee:
If you purchase the 5BARz Road Warrior and are still unable to achieve 5BARz of connectivity, contact CelLynx support for additional direction or to authorize the return of the unit to the place of purchase.
BOTTOM LINE:
The cellular internet connection download and upload speeds did increase (by 25% and 22%). The increase in bars was considered negligible.
The cellular call quality was considered a "bust" unless you want to actually keep your phone in the cradle and tethered to the 5BRW unit.
Would I spend $299 for this? No, not in my coverage area. Your area may have better results but this product did not work for me.
